(EXHAUST GAS ANALYSER FOR DIESEL GENERATOR)
Experiment No. : 2
AIM: –
To study the composition of exhaust gases from a diesel engine generator.
APPARATUS REQUIRED: –
A Diesel generator, thermometers, exhaust gas analyzer equipment.
THEORY: –
Exhaust gas or flue gas is emitted as a result of the combustion of fuels such as natural gas, gasoline/petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil or coal. According to the type of engine, it is discharged into the atmosphere through an exhaust pipe, flue gas stack or propelling nozzle.
Exhaust gas temperature (EGT) is important to the functioning of the catalytic converter of an internal combustion engine. It may be measured by an exhaust gas temperature gauge. EGT is also a measure of engine health in gas-turbine engines.
EXPERIMENTAL SETUP: –

PROCEDURE: –
- The generator was started by rotating manually and then releasing the control switch
- We ensured that the fan was running properly
- Initially the load was set to zero watt
- Under zero load, inlet water temperature, exit water temperature, exhaust gas temperature, pressure difference from U tube manometer speed(in rpm) and time for consumption of 50 ml of fuel was noted.
- The same procedure was repeated for increased load of 1000 watt
OBSERVATIONS TABLE : –
| Load (Watt) | Inlet Water Temp. (0C) | Exit Water Temp. (0C) | Exhaust Gas Temp. (0C) | Pressure (U tube Manometer) mm of H2O | Speed (RPM) | Time for 50ml fuel Consumption (Seconds) |
